Mass timber construction for starters
Wednesday 28th May 2025 | 8am -5pm | BE-ST Innovation Campus
About the course
Many professionals recognise the benefits of cross-laminated timber (CLT) but lack the confidence to work with CLT on real-world projects.
The Theory in Practice Mass Timber Training day on 28th May 2025, run in partnership between Rothoblaas with Built Environment – Smarter Transformation, Intelligent Wood Systems, Mass Timber Academy and Glulam Solutions, bridges this gap, equipping you with the technical skills, practical insights and confidence around mass timber.
This unique training opportunity will include practical training using cross laminated timber (CLT) and Glulam in BE-ST’s Innovation Factory, which hosts the UK’s only vacuum press for CLT manufacture.
A morning of inspiring presentations covering mass timber, timber innovation and an overview of Rothoblaas’s products for mass timber construction, shall be followed by an interactive practical group training session allowing learners to get hands-on with a range of Rothoblaas connectors and resilient profiles to assemble a representative CLT and Glulam model, comprising some common details of critical junctions.
This is a limited number of places available on a first come, first served basis.
Why participate?
The aim of the training is for learners to become familiar with the fundamental principles of mass timber construction, commonly used products and materials, and the main phases of construction of a mass timber building, avoiding the most common mistakes on site and during the design phase.
This is a unique event - you'll not only learn from experts about this fast-growing, sustainable method of construction, you'll also get hands-on experience of how to do it. If you, or your practice/consultancy want to get ahead of competitors in your peer group, this will be a day of your time well spent.
Who should attend?
If you’d describe your knowledge as “I know what CLT is, but I wouldn’t know where to start,” or “I understand the concept, but I need practical guidance on design, detailing, and construction,” this training is for you.
The course is perfectly suited for:
Architects, engineers and contractors who want to have a deeper knowledge of mass timber construction
Construction companies who want to train their workers through a practical and theoretical course
Construction professionals already working, or who would like to work more, with mass timber
Construction site and project managers
Designers and specifiers who want to get hands-on with mass timber products and understand common construction details
Technical salespeople working in timber construction
Don’t feel put off if you don't feel you know enough about the subject - most people who attend will be there for exactly the same reasons as you. They won't have been taught anything about mass timber during their formal education and most likely won't have had an opportunity to use CLT.
Ensure to register your or your team’s place before spaces fully go.
